I am currently on maternity leave. I will be running this course again soon. Thank you for your patience and keep an eye out for future dates.
Therapeutic Yoga for Stress & Anxiety
4 week course
new dates coming soon...

This 4 week yoga therapy based course is designed to lead you on a journey inwards. Through the process we will learn how anxiety and stress affect our nervous system, and how to use yoga as a therapeutic tool to manage and reduce symptoms. You will have the opportunity to learn about yoga on a much deeper level than most general classes.
The weekly practice will incorporate a combination of postures (asanas), breathing techniques (pranayama), meditation, yoga nidra and relaxation. It is specifically designed to rebalance the nervous system and teach you how to regulate mood and emotions using yoga tools. By practicing mindfully you are encouraged to explore your inner landscape, thoughts, sensations and habitual patterns with compassionate awareness. You will be held in a supportive group environment by a responsible and professional yoga teacher/yoga therapist. There will be time in each session for sharing, although this is not required, and you are welcome to use this time for quiet self reflection and rest.
The weekly sessions will run for up to an hour each Sunday. Each week we will build on the previous and will have a theme. It is necessary to come every week to experience the most benefit.

Aside from the weekly group sessions you will receive some tools or a short practice to do at home. Autonomy and self awareness are a valuable aspect of the healing process. While it is very supportive and beneficial to work in a group setting, the practices you do at home will contribute greatly to supporting you day to day.

No previous yoga experience is required but some understanding of yoga philosophy will help you experience the process more deeply. Due to the nature of the class you will need to be able to get up and down from a mat on the floor. The studio is also located upstairs.

The group classes will take place at A State of Mind Studio, Treloggan.

How is Yoga Therapy different from Yoga?

This course has been created using yoga therapy techniques designed to address specific symptoms shared by a group. While a general yoga class has the potential for therapeutic effect (such as focused breathing and movement to help release tension), with yoga therapy we are using yoga tools and their known benefits to address very specific symptoms. For example if you suffer from anxiety your nervous system is probably often in sympathetic (fight or flight) mode and your breathing may be shallow rapid or short, to address this we need to learn to breath slowly and deeply, focusing on extending our exhalation to shift into the parasympathetic (rest and restore) state.

I'm interested, what happens next?
If you would like to sign up you can contact me using the form below and I will send you bank details to transfer you payment. Once you have made your booking I will be in touch via email with a link to fill out a confidential health information form. Once I have received your deposit your place is secure and we will organise a time to have our 1:1 online appointment.
Please CHECK YOUR SPAM folder if you have booked the course. Sometimes my emails can end up there. I will also add you to a WhatsApp group. This is optional and you can request to not be added if you wish.
What's the purpose of the 1:1?

The 1:1 meeting takes place online via Zoom. You can use a phone or laptop. This consultation gives me an opportunity to meet you before the course and ask you any questions I need to based on the information you provide in the form. I will also look at your habitual breathing pattern. For this I will ask you to lie down on the floor with the camera showing from your hips to your head. I will ask you to breathe normally while assessing whether your breath is shallow, rapid, or if the inhalation is longer or shorter than the exhalation. I may then ask you to do a very simple breathing exercise based on my findings which will be similar to what we do on the course. It is helpful for me to have this appointent with you to make sure none of the practices we do in the course are going to have any unwanted effects. If you have shared any health conditions on the course then the 1:1 would be necessary depending on the condition. If you are generally healthy then you do not have to have this appointment unless you want to, although it is better for me to see your breathing before the start of the course.

It is best if I see you for the appointment in the 4 weeks leading up to the start of the course. The earlier the better to help me spread the 1:1 appointments of participants.
